1 week from now, we'll be in Tokyo.
to say i'm beyond excited is an understatement.
to say i'm freaking the eff out is also an understatement.
honestly, though, i don't know what to anticipate, and that might be the hardest thing. for one, japan is sure to be different than anywhere i've ever been. and honestly, i don't know a whole lot about japanese culture, specifically their modern culture. and i've heard that japanese food is AMAZING, but i'd be lying if i said i'm not even a little picky about new things. and then there's that whole "meet the parents in a foreign language" thing that is seriously just terrifying. sure, i've been working on my japanese. and sure, i have yasu who is 100% on my team and will hopefully translate as much as possible so that we can all communicate, but holy crap it's scary. it'll be a test, for certain.
on the excited side of things, we have a few really fun things planned, including a special sneaky photoshoot, a sake tasting, and we're going to be traveling to 3 different cities! excitement truly is high, and it's also fun knowing that this is just the first of many trips we'll be making to japan together!
and now........it's time to start packing. yikes!

These days...

i have a tendency to get fixated on colors. when it comes to my running gear, it's obviously purple. and it made my monday afternoon run just that more fun!
tuesday night was date night at the gym...first the treadmill, then some stretching.
my sweater project is coming along, and I quite like it!
on wednesday, we popped a bottle of congratulatory wine from our friends Piyoosh & Richa--it did NOT disappoint!
saturday involved a VERY special breakfast date with a VERY special 5 year old!
and on sunday, we went to a fun wedding expo where we met a potential florist AND most importantly got to play at our wedding venue for a while. dreaming about our big day in our event space makes it so much more real!!

sweater weather
with all the excitement i've had about knitting this winter, i've just recently taken on the biggest task of them all: i've decided to knit a sweater. like....not just a dorky looking stiff bulky sweater that i'd make but never wear, but a real, beautiful, soft, and cozy sweater. as it turns out, handmades don't have to look like elementary craft projects these days. i'm actually thrilled to be working on this project, especially with the travel plans that yasu and i have set for the next month--I will have PLENTY to do en route. with the gracious assistance of my teacher from the studio, i've just barely begun knitting this beautiful sweater from a designer named ysolda teague.
i'll probably post some progress updates on how the sweater is going simply as a means of documenting the project for myself. when the work actually begins looking like a sweater, i'll be really, really excited, as right now i just have a whole lot of wound yarn to work with. isn't it beautiful? also, how cute are the shop girls??

i can only hope that my sweater will turn out as beautifully and as wearable as hers.i'll probably post some progress updates on how the sweater is going simply as a means of documenting the project for myself. when the work actually begins looking like a sweater, i'll be really, really excited, as right now i just have a whole lot of wound yarn to work with. isn't it beautiful? also, how cute are the shop girls??

mitts
it's no secret that i have some solid grandma tendencies. yasu will definitely tell you that i hardly ever finish a movie because i often fall asleep (though i could also blame my dad for that one...). my favorite thing that i inherited from my maternal grandmother, though, is the ability to knit. she taught me to knit when i was in early elementary school, and though i didn't get hooked on it until later in life, i will always credit her with teaching me from the start.
since moving to colorado, it's been a goal of mine to actually create with my knitting skills beyond the basics, and finally this winter i've learned some pretty awesome skills. with the help of an incredible teacher at my favorite local yarn shop, fancy tiger crafts (explore the website and swoon, honestly), i've created some pretty awesome things so far this winter.
as of late, my most treasured and needed project has been a pair of fingerless mitts. this winter has been darn cold, and they've been on my hands pretty much every time i've been outside since completing them.
to me, knitting is just a calm and serene activity, which i need at this point in my life--chasing a VERY energetic toddler around everyday is anything BUT serene! anyway, it was a fun and easy project to complete, but best of all, they're actually being worn and have come in quite handy (see what i did there??) this winter.

back to blogging!!
alright, world. i'm back to blogging. given the excitement of the coming year, and the encouragement of my dear friend kellie, it's time to get writing again.
so what's that excitement of the coming year, you ask? well......
on christmas, yasu proposed. so, that means we get to plan a wedding! we've set the date in June of 2015, but that won't stop us from getting a start on things.
next up, i've joined a women's triathlon team. yasu is an ironman triathlete, and i can't exactly marry an ironman without trying to keep up a LITTLE bit. mostly, joining a team will provide group workouts that i'm sure to attend! so far...biking is still my favorite. i'm not sure why my endurance is so much stronger on the bike, but we'll see if my swimming and running skills can at least try to keep up with the wheels. i'm planning on doing a sprint triathlon (750m swim, 10mi bike, and 5k run) at the end of june this year. we'll see how this goes.
oh, and also, WE ARE GOING TO JAPAN. yasu was born and (mostly) raised in japan until he moved to CO 12 years ago, and his family is still living outside of tokyo. so, one month from today (cue freak out), we will embark on the loooong plane trip to japan. it will be an adventure, i promise. we have a few exciting things planned while we're there, in both Tokyo and Kyoto. I'm extremely excited and am already wishing we were going for more than 10 days. the only thing i can really do to prepare is to work on learning japanese (which i am currently avoiding by creating a blog and writing a post). anyone else unable to speak the same language as their (future) in laws?
other than that, we have a couple trips planned, a few visitors coming, and there's the everyday excitement of life in denver--we stay busy exploring our city and state, and spending a whole lot of time together! 2014 is sure to be exciting, so i'm glad to be getting a blog going again for even a few readers to come along!
